Eriyo Watanabe is a leading authority in the field of traditional Japanese incense ceremony and the founder of an interdisciplinary approach that integrates historical, therapeutic, and artistic perspectives on incense.  As the Grand Master of Renshin School of Incense and Director of the Incense Research Institute (IRI), she has dedicated over two decades to the advancement of incense studies and the development of original blends using natural and ethnically sourced materials, and the exploration of incense's role in sensory aesthetics and phycho-emotional well-being.  Her signature creation, "Fermented Lotus Incense," derived from Japanese lotus flowers and produced through a proprietary fermentation technique, has gathered critical acclaim for its innovation and cultural significance.  Watanabe's academic training includes coursework a the Sotheby's Institute of Art in London and a Master's Degree in Expressive Arts Therapy and Holistic Health from Lesley University in Cambridge, Massachusetts.  These studies, combined with her residence in London, Paris, Hong Kong, New York, and Boston, and her travels to over 50 countries, have shaped a global and intercultural perspective that informs her research and pedagogical methodologies.  She has delivered lectures and led workshops on the history and cultural function of incense at institutions such as the Embassies of Egypt and Oman in Japan, the Urasenke School of Tea, Yokohama Museum of Art, Yokohama International School, and the Embassy of Japan in India.  Her work has also been applied in cross-disciplinary contents through customized programs for leading global corporations, including SHISEIDO, ESTEE LAUDER, KIRIN, Unilever, Firmenich, and Hyatt Regency Kyoto.  In her capacity as an educator, Watanabe offers a structured online certification course for international students seeking formal training in Japanese incense practice and theory.  Her current research and outreach focus on the "Lotus Peace Project," a global initiative exploring the symbolic and healing dimensions of original lotus incense in the content of intercultural dialogue for world peace.

英国Sotheby's Institute of Art にて世界美術史、米国Lesley Universityにて芸術療法を学び、修士号を取得。ボストン・パリ・ロンドン・香港における10年間の海外生活および、51ヶ国への渡航経験を通して、20年以上にわたり、古代より受け継がれてきた世界各地の香文化に関する研究を行っている。香研究会IRI代表・蓮心流香道家元として、聞香会の開催、オリジナルのお香の創作、香スペシャリスト養成講座、企業研修など、多岐にわたる活動を展開。日本薬科大学特命講師として教育にも携わる。国宝や芸術作品から着想を得たお香の創作をライフワークとし、香りを通じた感動の再構築を試みている。長年の研究を基に、古代蓮と伽羅を使って発酵・熟成させて創香した「熟香®ロータス」および「熟香®マナ」は、その集大成として位置づけられる。また、お香を通じた国際的な社会貢献を目指し、2024年より「Lotus Peace Project 〜心の平和から世界の平和へ〜」 の活動をを開始して、定期的に世界各地で聞香会と講演会を開催している。これまでに、オマーン大使館・ブルガリア大使公邸・エジプト大使館・京懐石「柿傳」・東京国立博物館「応挙館」・国際文化会館・ポートランド日本庭園・ブリティッシュコロンビア大学など、由緒ある会場にて、講演会やお香の会を実施している。
